What makes writing so captivating to the average person; is it the directive appeal towards the imaginative world or is it the ability to put your heart’s desire onto paper; invoking more thought than what was initially given to the audience. There are several intricate steps when what to know about writing and from person to person in always differentiates, so I won’t fill your mind with what writing is but give more of a sense into what it means to me. Writing is incredibly important and when posed with the question of “What is my theory on writing”, I knew instantly hundreds of things to say to describe what writing is. Writing is many things and at the same time is nothing at all at once. Writing comes not just from your mind but is impacted form your experiences and what is important to you. Writing poses a unique challenge and when coming about you are able to talk to the present and the future. Have you been able to read a book and feel, know what they were thinking during that specific time? When writing you can take various things into account, such as the audience, the type of language you are using and how you will appeal to them. Writing possesses no restrictions other than your own mind and when starting on your writing, be aware to keep an open mind and be able to adapt. What makes writing truly special is the ability to read one’s work (or your own) and be able to go through several processes (peer review, revisions and even outlining) which further enhance the understanding of one’s work.
In my writing process, I have come to learn the process of revisions and peer-reviewing. These simple steps in my writing have allowed me to look at the interpretations of my writings, my flaws in the writings and hone on my skills as a writer to make my next pieces of work better from the prior attempt. Writing has shaped my writing in many ways allowing me to always improve on my writing. Each time I write I always get better at expressing myself and appealing towards the audience sensed of nature in my writing. My writing has greatly improved over time, ranging from the fictional writing pieces to even my academic literary pieces. Being able to write also came as a result of reading and learning new ways of speaking to the audience through my writing.
“ On the other hand, having an idea on how you want to structure your essay, what you’re going to include, how you’re going to express yourself, all bring a different perspective towards the type of writing that will come out when in discussion to what you feel passionate about it.”
This demonstrates the difference in my initial thought until this point. I always knew deep down what writing was all about, yet I would never put the dots together. This important step makes it easier for just about anybody to pick up a pen and start writing anything that their heart desires without the constrictions that we thought we faced growing up. It is hard to break away from this type of writing since we have always constricted ourselves in many topics often resulting in little experience of what writing is. In another reflection of my writing, something that resonated with me was…
“How many times do we revise our paper before we are truly content with what we have written? Are we satisfied in following the guidelines in making a good paper or is it better to express your opinions and not follow the guidelines to peak the reader’s interest?”
Taken from one of my reflections, this spoke to me because It reminded me of the process I went through in order for me to get into a semi-prestigious school by perfecting my craft for my personal statement (College Paper). My personal statement went through such a rigorous process that by the end of it, I was in the exact ballpark of 500 words expanding with enough detail with What I want to do with my life and the troubles that I faced when writing my personal statement. As a result of revising dozens of times and changing different topics it also gave the idea to work within the confinements given from the personal statement and expand towards the risky paper. These significant events have helped me shape the way my writing has become today and despite still being far from perfect my writing utilizes a difference in the way that it is writing that comes from my experiences the way I feel and the new ideas that I can put on a piece of paper. The comments from my peers and even from my instructor also is reflected in my writing as it makes me more self-conscious towards particular scenarios and things I need to improve on in my work.
My writing has progressed throughout the years, evolving and shaping into a fine masterpiece and form of art. My writing brings its method of depth and brings the reader to a deeper understanding of what goes on in my world. A significant event that impacted my writing was my personal statement. Writing at first was no easy triumph and took time and effort to refine my skills and figure out what was important to have in my writing. My personal statement became easier and easier to make as I caught myself revising and getting peer-reviewed several times before I even began constructing my final piece. I constantly scrapped my ideas, reaching deeper into the lion’s den, I wanted to find what exactly I wanted to talk about. Personal statements are often centralized around the idea that we all need a form of “struggle” to succeed or continue with what we value but as someone oblivious to the fact, I did not have any. After several attempts between the revisions and peer review, it helped me even spark a new idea of working within the lines of confinement. Despite the questions needed to be answered to identify as a “struggle”, I looked at it outside of the box and convinced myself that this was my biggest feat, my biggest obstacle to overcome before facing the harsh reality of the world. It was a great experience overall, making it a memorable time for me to learn the process writing is truly composed of. Writing can always be done in different lengths and the amount of effort you put into it can also change the form of the way you write or the number of mistakes you have on your paper or sometimes you can refine a work of yours and sum up your entire life story (or ideals in my case) in under around 500 words. Writing will continue to evolve and it’s meaning will constantly shift and despite having a constant goal, it will always improve itself as the more I learn in life.
